Other Bruce Christmas Material Submitted on: 2008-12-23 |

| Without a doubt this CD is my favorite Christmas album from any artist. Nothing else comes close. As the years go by I realize every December just how perfect this album is. A great mix of styles that never gets old. Even the packaging is great - the black and white pictures, red disc and album notes penned by Bruce, which is a rarity in itself. You can't go wrong picking this up. But if you love this cd as much as I do let's talk about some other Bruce Christmas songs that are out there on other Cockburn albums. 1. CRY OF A TINY BABE - a retelling of the Christmas story in typical Bruce style - when was the last time you heard about deathsquads in a Christmas song? This song appears on Bruce's 1991 album "Nothing But A Burning Light". 2. SHEPHERDS - the original 1976 version of the song that appears on his Christmas cd. A completely different melody - a beautiful long song with exquisite guitar work and a trumpet solo. Appears on the Rounder Records reissue of Bruce's '76 album "In The Falling Dark". 3. My personal favorite of all Bruce's Christmas songs: CHRISTMAS SONG - a beautiful, evocative acoustic song that perfectly captures a Christmas night - appeared on 1974's "Salt Sun And Time". **** For hardcore fans and completists Bruce appeared in a syndicated radio show program in the 90's for Columbia Records. "Christmas With Cockburn" was an hour long radio show that ran every year from 1991 - 1995. Along with special guests (like Lou Reed, Jackson Browne, Jonatha Brooke and Sam Phillips) Bruce played songs from his regular albums along with a few Christmas songs each year. Recordings do circulate among collectors. *** This extra dimension of Bruce has always been special to me at the end of every year. |

(My best all-time) Christmas album Submitted on: 2008-12-08 |

| This ranks number one for Christmas albums; for me. I was never the biggest Bruce fan, but this release set the tone for what a holiday album should be. He covers a few popular holiday tunes but stays mainly on the fringes and does the numbers in his own unique, and downright beautiful and moving way. He really nailed it. Amazing. |

The Absolute Best Submitted on: 2007-11-13 |

| I love Christmas music. I own over 60 Christmas CDs and I drive the folks at work crazy when I start listening to Christmas music before Halloween. Bruce Cockburn is simply the best Christmas CD I have ever heard. This one could be played year-round. |

One song first caught my attention; entire album is really great! Submitted on: 2007-03-18 |

I'm enjoying this more than I even really expected to -- it's not your typical Christmas collection, and each track is different enough from the other to keep the excitement going, throughout.
I've always liked Bruce Cockburn's music, but when I caught a bit of 'It Came Upon The Midnight Clear' on the radio once, I was also interested because, though I'd been singing the song for years without knowing it's history, it turns out that I live in the town Edmund H. Sears (the lyricist) once lived in -- in fact, I think his house is somewhere around the corner...so, I'll play that one LOUD so if he's hanging around he can enjoy this new treatment of his beautiful song!
We had no snow here on Christmas -- now, it's March, and we just had a big snowstorm. I found it so much easier to endure shovelling all that snow since I'd just received this CD! My mailbox got knocked down but the CD was safely inside it and my dear husband carried the entire thing into the house for me.....mailbox and all....a very special delivery! Heheh. |
